Audiovisual Creative Studies is a comprehensive curriculum that includes courses in film and television studies, photography, video production, computer animation, design and interactive media, but mainly is focused in studies and practices in audiovisual and new technologies.
Stage one
The first years at Audiovisual Creative Studies is divided in 3 units. Introductions to graphic design, audiovisual creation, photography, audiovisual languages and creativity alongside the development of personal creative practice in the studio are supported by theory lectures. Level one is mainly about exploring ideas through a range of media and processes.
Stage two
The second level is divided in 2 units. Audiovisual Technologies and Creation, Content Design... At this level students are specialized in AV tools and consolidating audiovisual production. This aspect is complemented by theory lectures. Level two encourages the development of a personal visual language.
Stage three
The third year, which we call the "Exchange Year", will include the 60 ECTS credits ( 120 UK Credits) required to complete the programme. Students are encouraged to stduy in one of Afiliated Universities to finalize their studies. This last year focuses on work, and students will put into practice everything they have learned during the first two years. In addition to gaining work experience, students will also develop maturity in their personal relationships.Further information at Exchange Year
Professional Profiles
Market changes, the global economy and technological innovation are leading to structural changes in business models, a rethinking of business routines and, consequently, new employment profiles.
Interactive multimedia creation enjoys a huge scope of activity provided by digital television, the Internet and cell phone technology. The Internet, which is accelerating transfer and digitalization processes and eliminating boundaries between old and new professions, creates bridges and generates new areas of convergence. Digital terrestrial television (DTT or DTTV) will make it possible to receive new interactive services to access the information society. Mobile technology will further and greatly expand these possibilities.
Changes in audiovisual and multimedia content are real and irreversibly linked to the rethinking of some routines typical of classic industrial production processes, as well as to a rearrangement of professional competencies and new profiles needed to handle the production process with digital tools that are more and more approachable and compatible with creative tasks or content management.
The tendency towards skills versatility is important in the new professional profiles, for two basic reasons:
First, technology operates more and more in multitask and multiprocess environments, which makes it necessary to have knowledge of the entire range of technical and operational resources.
Second, a set of transferable competencies and skills associated with creativity, content design and team work is required. Logically, and related with these capacities, the professional must possess those that are specific to the area. Likewise, those capacities depend on the work environment, which will demand that more or less of them are used.
We can say, then, that versatility of the profile of the new professional is guided by the "technology + contents + creativity" trinomial.
The combination of generalist training with other, more specific types of training will help us obtain the skills necessary for the following professionals profiles:
Audiovisual directors/producers
These professionals write scripts, direct, develop ideas and organize and supervise productions in different medias - cinematographic, television, videographic and advertising - using their technical and artistic knowledge of the processes. They may also specialize in accordance with individual competencies in specific areas or have multifaceted specializations.
Audiovisual technicians
These professionals use a range of audiovisual equipment to record, capture, set up for and reproduce image and sound, working either independently or following the instructions of the director, the producer and the director of photography. According to the type of reproduction desired audiovisual technicians use digital processing techniques to convert between formats and media to produce fictional, documentary, television and advertising narratives, as well as on-line and/or off-line interactive applications. They are responsible for assuring the transfer of audiovisual messages through media solutions that take into account technical and productive viability.
Audiovisual designers
Professional audiovisual designers design their own graphic solutions or develop them based on third-party requests or market demands. They develop business innovation and communication policies related with corporative identity. They prepare on on-line and off-line audiovisual projects, televised graphics, etc. They can design all types of graphic media communication applications, whether they be printed material, like catalogues, packaging and magazines, or advertising.
